Our goal is to renovate one of the empty classroom spaces into a calming room. We hope to paint, decorate and organize the room to create a mindful atmosphere and safe space for our students and by extension staff and parents. The walls should reflect affirmations as well as graphics for self regulation.

We recognize the need for a space in which our students and, by extension, staff can utilize. A calming room creates a safe space, facilitates a therapeutic alliance, increases the ability to self-nurture, increases resilience, increases self-esteem and body image, and increases one’s ability to engage in social activities.
With the newly renovated room, our students who experience challenges will have a space in which resources will be available to them. They will be able to use the wall murals and interactive tools for self regulation and expression.. The room will also help us in dealing with parents who need additional support. We will be able to better demonstrate strategies that they also utilize at home.
